How to Zoom Into a Video on Mac
A practical guide to enlarging a video during playback on macOS.

1. Open your video
Download Zoom Video Player from the Mac App Store, then open your video file. The app also supports opening video URLs over HTTPS.
2. Pinch to zoom and pan
Start playback and pinch on the trackpad to enlarge the video. Pan to move the enlarged picture. Hold Option and drag a rectangle when you want to focus on a particular area.
3. Inspect the frame
Slow playback from 0.25× up to 5×, or step to the previous or next frame. Use Actual Size for one source pixel per screen pixel. Export or copy the current frame as a PNG when you need a still image.
4. Compare another clip
Open up to nine clips in separate windows and synchronize zoom and playback to compare takes. The windows can be arranged automatically to fill the screen.
